The Southwest Sabres moved into a first-place tie in the South Division of the Rural Manitoba Football League on Monday.
The Sabres shut out the host Virden Golden Bears 59-0 in a makeup game in the nine-man high school football league to improve to 5-3 on the season, tied with the Moosomin (Sask.) Generals.
The Golden Bears, who were led offensively by Nick Weisberg’s 47 yards on nine carries and defensively by Triston Turner’s 12 tackles and an interception, slipped to 0-7 on the season.
The league semifinals are tentatively slated for this Saturday.
