Sabres stars top awards

Courtney Fines and Ryan Muirhead took top honours as Elton Collegiate handed out its Sabres sports awards on Wednesday.

Fines was named Elton’s female athlete of the year, while Muirhead was the Sabres’ male athlete of the year. Fines played varsity volleyball and basketball and helped lead Elton to the provincial AA volleyball title. She was named MVP of the basketball team and co-MVP of the volleyball squad, along with Jordan Heeney. Meanwhile, Muirhead played volleyball for Elton and hockey for the Rivers/Elton Rage, while also competing in track and field.
