Sambrook shines for Devils

Reid Sambrook scored one goal and set up two others as the Melita/Waskada Devils scored four times in the third period to beat the Rivers/Elton Rage 5-1 late Sunday night in Melita to sweep their best-of-three Westman High School Hockey League consolation quarter-final.

Wes Meggison added two assists for the Devils, while Zach Muir replied for the Rage. The Devils will face the Souris/Reston Sabres in the semifinals.

In Sunday’s other game, it was: Boissevain Broncos 5, Deloraine/Hartney Colts 4 in double overtime.

Tonight, the Broncos host the Colts in Game in Boissevain at 8 o’clock. Meanwhile, the Crocus Plainsmen take on the Major Pratt Trojans at the Optimist Arena at 7:30 p.m. The Trojans lead the best-of-3 semifinal series 1-0.

Broncos 5 Colts 4 (2OT)

At Deloraine, Carter Cowlthorp scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime frame, as the Broncos opened their best-of-three provincial AA qualifying series with a victory. Skylar Canada added one goal and one assist for Boissevain, which hosts Game 2 tonight at 8 o’clock. Ty Moffat had one goal and two helpers for the Colts.
