Sanderson, Aussies out

The run of Brandon University Bobcat alumnus Paul Sanderson and his Australian national men’s volleyball team at the FIVB World League came to an end in the finals on Friday in Italy.

Sanderson started the first two sets and recorded two points for the Volleyroos yesterday as they fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-21) to Italy in their Pool H finale.

Thomas Edgar paced the Australians, who finished 0-2 in their pool, with 20 points. Ivan Zaytsev had 15 for Italy, which topped the pool with a 2-0 record.

Italy will meet Brazil in today’s semifinals, with the United States battling Iran in the other. The bronze-medal and gold-medal matches will be played on Sunday.
