Travis Sanheim of the Yellowhead Chiefs was named the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League’s MNP Defensive Player of the Month for the end of the regular season in February.
The 16-year-old from Elkhorn had a goal and three assists with a plus/minus of +3 for the month, helping the Chiefs lock down second place in the West Division and a bye into the second round of the playoffs. James Shearer of the Brandon Wheat Kings was one of the runners-up for the award.
The Century 21 Goaltender of the Month was McCreary native Matt Kohlman of the Parkland Rangers. Kohlman, 17, won only one of his three games, but was sharp between the pipes with a 3.35 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
Winning the WHL Offensive Player of the Month award was Winnipeg Wild forward Jake Dudar, with the runners-up including Brett Kitt of the Wheat Kings and Shawn Bowles of the Chiefs.
