Schneider leaves Midget Wheaties

The Brandon Midget AAA Wheat Kings are looking for a new head coach.

The Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League club announced last night that bench boss Ken Schneider has elected to step down after five years with the team, including the past four seasons serving as head coach. The team announced a search for a replacement will begin immediately.

Schneider guided the Midget Wheat Kings to a first-place 39-3-2 record this season, included an 18-game winning streak, as Brandon captured its first regular-season pennant since 2003-04. However, for the fourth straight year, the Wheat Kings’ season ended in the league semifinals.

Schneider, a former captain of the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings, posted a combined coaching record of 124 wins, 45 losses and seven ties for an impressive .724 winning percentage with the Brandon midgets.
