Season over for Vikings

Both Vincent Massey Vikings varsity basketball teams had their seasons come to an end in the first round of the provincial AAAA high school basketball championships in Winnipeg on Friday night.

Shelby Nohr had a team-high nine points for the 12th-seeded Massey girls as they fell 87-40 to the fifth-seeded Linden Christian Wings. Brittany Boschman added eight points and eight rebound for the Vikings, while Zaina Bird also posted eight points.

In the boys’ game, Andrew Nelson had 12 points for the 12th-ranked Vikings as they fell 101-52 to the Kelvin Clippers, the event’s fifth seed. Igor Reva also had 12 points for Massey, while Johnson Duku added 11.

Although their seasons came to end, Brett Nohr, who coaches both teams, was proud of his squads for making it to provincials.

“Not disappointing,” he said. “Our goal this year was to be playing in March and we succeeded in that.”
