A Brandon native is one of this year’s inductees for the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame.
Garth German, who was born and raised in Brandon before going on to softball success in Winnipeg, was one of four inductees announced Friday.
German, who started playing men’s softball at only 13 years old with the Modern Dairies team, went on to win 20 provincial championships during his career and represented Manitoba or Canada 30 times. He was also named all-Canadian at shortstop at the 1987 national Senior A championship.
Other players who will be inducted at a ceremony on May 3 in Winnipeg are Greg Bouchard, Bob Taylor and Fred Taylor. Builder Keith King and coaches Joe Nespor and Nick Pliszka will also be honoured.
Teams that will enter the hall are the 1927-30 Uneedas men’s diamond ball team, the 1967-70 Pine Falls Canadians men’s fastball squad, and the 1994-96 Smitty’s Terminators midget girls’ club.
