The Neelin Spartans will hold their first alumni game on Saturday.
The Spartans will face the St. Norbert Celtics in Winnipeg High School Football League action at the Neelin field at 1 p.m.
The day’s festivities will feature a tailgate party starting at 11 a.m., a ground-breaking ceremony for a planned press box at the Neelin field, with former players and coaches slated to be honoured at half time. Players and coaches from four decades, dating back to the 1970s, are expected to be at the game, including a couple of members of the original Spartans team.
The Spartans’ football program was started four decades ago by Doug Steeves, and went on to produce CFLers like punter Glenn Harper and offensive lineman Craig Hendrickson.
