Spartans knock off top-ranked Vikings

The top two AAAA high school girls’ volleyball teams in the province clashed Tuesday and the second-ranked team came out on top.

Alison Quiring had 13 kills and three blocks as the host Neelin Spartans toppled the top-ranked Vincent Massey Vikings 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-19) in the Brandon High School Volleyball League season opener.

Amy Gordon and Paige Thomson added seven kills apiece for second-ranked Neelin, which has moved up from the AAA category this season.

Jill Giesbrecht had nine kills and six aces for the Vikings, who got 10 kills, two aces and three blocks from Carmen Hutsal.
