Spartans secure spot in semifinals

The Neelin Spartans finished on top of their pool Friday at the Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational varsity boys high school basketball tournament.

The Spartans finished with a 3-0 record after defeating the Beaver Brae Broncos 86-21 Friday morning and the R.D. Parker Trojans 99-32 in the afternoon. Brandon Williams led Neelin with 19 points in the morning and Quinton Hunter had 17 points in the afternoon. Dave Simpkin led Beaver Brae with six points. Femi Oemegi had 13 for the Trojans.

In other Tri-Star Screen Printing Division games:

Massey-Bdn 89 Sanford 50

Jeremy Lucio paced the Vikings with 17 points. Kris Trask had 18 for the Sabres.

Dauphin 71 Massey-Bdn 59

Darren Gudmundson scored 27 points to lead Dauphin

(3-0) to first in its pool. Lucio scored 18 points for the Vikings (2-1), who finished second.<B>

Nelson Mac 82 Crocus 74

Elias Desautels scored 21 points to lead the Wolverines. Jake Cullen led all players with 24 points for Crocus, which finished 1-2 in the round robin.

Crocus 91 Swan Valley 40

Taylor Maloney had 21 points for the Plainsmen. Nathaniel Wowchuk replied with 10 for the Tigers.

Glenboro 52 R.D. Parker 46

Glen Pronteau’s 30 points weren’t enough for the Trojans. Tyler Sjolander led the Panthers (2-1) with 20 points.

Westgate 61 Minnedosa 58

Mark Morgan scored 17 points for the Chancellors

(1-2). Mitch Jakowski had 16 points for Westgate.

Steinbach 66 Swan Valley 44

Justin Sarmiento led the Sabres with 20 points.

Dauphin 74 Killarney 35

Brant Bosiak topped the Clippers’ attack with 21 points. Logan Beazley replied with eight for the Raiders (1-2).

Selkirk 67 Stonewall 64

Ryley Holod led all players with 27 points, but his effort wasn’t enough to guide the Rams past the Royals. Greg Kuz had 19 for Selkirk.

Glenboro 73 Beaver Brae 32

The Panthers were led by Drake Wallis and Matt Klassen, with 19 points each.

Nelson Mac 75 Steinbach 59

Brennan Herie scored 21 points for the Wolverines. Justin Sarmiento had 19 for the Sabres.

Selkirk 105 Minnedosa 64

Mark Morgan’s 42 points weren’t enough for a Chancellor victory. Greg Kuz had 24 for Selkirk.

Killarney 90 Sanford 83

Beazley netted 37 points for the Raiders. Keegan Harper had 38 for the Sabres.

VICTORIA INN DIVISION:

Miles Mac 69 Maples 64

Collin Ralko and Joe Proulx both scored 10 points for the Buckeyes. Jan Manibo had 14 for the Marauders.

Dakota 60 Kelvin 50

Brandon Vidal’s 21 points capped the Lancers victory. Dikan Gjuric replied with 18 points for the Clippers.

Glenlawn 81 Daniel Mac 51

Hayden Sitter led the Lions with 15 points. Garnett McLeod had 16 for the Maroons.

Oak Park 119 G.Valley 49

Isaac Margolis had 24 points for the two-time defending champion Raiders (3-0). Ryan Penner replied with 13 points.

G.City 98 Massey-Wpg 37

Josh Magpantay led the Fighting Gophers with 19 points. Liam Crane had eight points for the Trojans.

Fort Rich. 90 St. John’s 58

Mbawemi Ntungo and Isaac Unico both had 17 points for the Centurions. Nikko Ferrer replied with 19 for the Tigers.

MBCI 98 J.H. Bruns 67

Vicki Chahal scored 20 points to lead the Hawks. Zac Rose netted 14 for the Broncos.

Campbell 59 W.Churchill 38

Mackenzie Burns scored 14 points to lead the Tartans.

Oak Park 82 MBCI 20

Colson Reimer scored 18 points for the Raiders. Derek McKnight replied with 17.

Kelvin 94 Maples 86

Gjuric scored 20 points for the Clippers. Matt Dunning had 19 for the Marauders.

G. Valley 61 J.H. Bruns 56

Ryan Penner had 27 points for the Zodiacs. Timon Kozelko replied with 22 for the Broncos.

Jayden McKoy’s 20 points led the Buckeyes. Vidal had 17 for the Lancers.

Jowel Shuffler had 24 points for the Fighting Gophers. Lane Reed replied with 10 for the Centurions.

LATE GAMES:

Friday’s games between Campbell and Glenlawn, Westgate and Stonewall, St. John’s and Winnipeg’s Vincent Massey, and Winston Churchill and DMCI were still in progress late last night.
