Theo Farough helped the Neelin Spartans earn a split with the Vincent Massey Vikings on Tuesday night.
Farough scored a game-high 27 points to lead the host Spartans to an 80-58 triumph over the visiting Vikings in varsity boys’ action in the Brandon High School Basketball League. Vincent Massey won the varsity girls’ matchup, 53-51 in overtime.
In the nightcap, Brock Hiltner and Chance Miller both scored 14 points to lead the Spartans in their league opener. Jeremy Lucio replied with 24 points, while Ian Cowie had nine and Tyler Campbell eight for the Vikings, who slipped to 1-1 on the season.
In the early game, Jessi Coulter and Megan Asham both scored 11 points to lead the Vikings to the victory. Taylor Halliday added nine points for the Vikings, who improved to 1-1.
Kristine Ward and Courtney Matienzo replied with 15 points apiece, while Paige Thomson added 11 points for the Spartans, who were playing their first league game.
Trojans take out Plainsmen
Brayden Cullum had two goals, while Bret Nahirniak had a goal and four assists to lead the Major Pratt Trojans to a 5-3 victory over the Crocus Plainsmen in Westman High School Hockey League action Tuesday night at the Optimist Arena.
Nick Cochrane and Landyn Cochrane also scored for the Russell-based Trojans, while Skylar Peters, Blair McDonald and Ryan Baker replied with the goals for the Plainsmen.
Major Pratt improved to 10-1-0 and moved into sole possession of second place in the league behind the 11-0-0 Neepawa Tigers. Meanwhile, the Plainsmen slipped to 8-3-1 and remain in a three-way tie for fourth place.
