Paige Thomson and Brock Hiltner helped the Neelin Spartans win their Westman High School Basketball League season openers on Tuesday night.

Thomson scored a game-high 23 points to power the Spartans to a 53-48 triumph over the visiting Vincent Massey Vikings in varsity girls’ action at Neelin. Meanwhile, Hiltner hit for 22 points to lead Neelin to a 70-52 victory over Vincent Massey in the varsity boys’ game.

In the opener, Courtney Matienzo added 12 points for the Spartans, while Tara VanCauwenberghe replied with nine points to lead the Vikings (1-1).

In the nightcap, Quinton Hunter notched 14 points, Andrew Paul posted 12 points, and Brodie Gill chipped in with 10 points in Neelin’s victory. Andrew Nelson replied with 11 points, while Igor Reva added 10 for Vincent Massey (1-1).
