The Neelin Spartans clinched their ninth city title in 10 seasons on Tuesday night.
The Spartans completed a sweep of the visiting Vincent Massey Vikings in the best-of-three varsity boys’ final of the Brandon High School Basketball League by beating the Vikings 76-51.
Dylan Minshull led a balanced Spartans attack with 14 points, while Chance Miller had 11 and Theo Farough and Isaak Stark added 10 each.
"We’ve stuck to a motto all year that hard work will hopefully overcome talent and these kids kind of paid tribute to that tonight," said Spartans head coach Don Thomson, whose team will face the host Virden Golden Bears in a AAA interzone playoff game on Friday.
Iain Cowie scored 20 points, while Michael Bright added eight for the Vikings, who will play in next week’s AAAA regionals in Winnipeg.
Meanwhile, Neelin evened up the best-of-three varsity girls final with a 52-42 victory over Vincent Massey last night.
Paige Thomson had 16 points, with Jordan Hardy adding 12 points for the Spartans. Stephanie Hunter replied with 13 points, while Stacey Shearer had nine for the Plainsmen.
The third and deciding game will be played Thursday at Neelin at 6 p.m.
