• 40 YEARS AGO — Ron Chipperfield led the way with four goals as the Brandon Wheat Kings beat Flin Flon 7-5 in WCHL action. Rick Blight assisted on all four goals.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Jerry Hemmings, head coach of the Brandon University Bobcats men’s basketball team, was named the 1982 Sportsman of the Year, while Mel Logan’s curling team from Souris was picked Westman’s Team of the Year.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Clint Haight scored four times to pace the Cartwright Clippers to a 10-8 triumph over the Minnedosa Bombers in South West Hockey League action.
