Sydney Sprenger’s MVP performance at the provincial rural soccer championship has earned her the nod as this week’s Tri-Star rural high school athlete of the week.

The 5-foot-9 midfielder, who averaged a goal a game during the season according to coach Jim Duthie, led the Rivers Rams varsity girls soccer team to the provincial title on Saturday in Altona with a goal in a 2-1 victory over the Stonewall Rams. Sprenger, who scored the shootout winner in the Zone 7 final, was also named player of the game in Rivers’ 2-1 semifinal victory over Hamiota at provincials.

The Grade 12 student sports an academic average of 85 per cent and also competes in track and field, cross-country, curling and volleyball for Rivers Collegiate.
