Steelers stomp Natives

Soren Fredriksen scored two goals and set up two others for the Selkirk Steelers as they pounded the host Neepawa Natives 8-1 Friday night in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

In Friday’s other games, it was: Dauphin Kings 4, OCN Blizzard 2; and Portage Terriers 3, Swan Valley Stampeders 0.

In Neepawa, Parker Thomas and Dallas Starodub both added two goals and an assist for the Steelers (22-6-2), with Brett Dudar and Derrick Brooks adding single markers. Gladstone’s Lyndon Soper scored the lone goal for Neepawa (9-21-4), which was set up by Brandonite Jaxon Elmes, while Matt Young stopped 42 shots.

Kings 4 Blizzard 2

In The Pas, Killarney’s Jesse Bernard had a goal and a helper for the Kings (18-12-1), winners of four straight, while Brett Griffin, Ryan Cooper and Brent Wold netted the other markers. Tyler Grove and Grant Valiquette replied for the Blizzard (14-18-1).

Terriers 3 Stampeders 0

In Swan River, Elkhorn’s Brett Orr set up Tyler Jeanson’s, Nolan Ross’s and Riley Hay’s markers for the Terriers (22-7-5), who moved back into first place overall in the league, while Talor Joseph made 24 saves for his first shutout of the season. Nathan Armstrong stopped 39 shots for the Stampeders (15-18-1).
