Storm plays havoc with sports schedule

Friday’s winter storm wreaked havoc on sporting schedules across the province, including in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, which postponed three of its four games.

Among those wiped off the schedule were the Dauphin Kings’ home game against the Selkirk Steelers and the Neepawa Natives’ home date versus the Winkler Flyers. The only MJHL game to be played was in The Pas, between the OCN Blizzard and the Steinbach Pistons. The Natives-Flyers game was rescheduled for Monday at 7:30 p.m.

All six Westman High School Hockey League games were postponed, including the Vincent Massey Vikings’ road game against the Killarney/ Wawanesa Raiders and the Crocus Plainsmen’s contest in Boissevain against the Broncos.

Meanwhile, the Friday games at the Sabres Shootout varsity girls’ high school basketball tournament in Souris were called off, while organizers were still trying to decide whether to play today’s matchups.

All five of Friday’s Tiger Hills Hockey League games were postponed, while tonight’s North Central Hockey League all-star game in Grandview has also been called off. The NCHL all-star game is not expected to be made up. The Grandview Comets’ Friday home game against the Foxwarren Falcons was also postponed, as was the scheduled game between the Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks and the Roblin Northstars.

Also cancelled on Friday was the Brandon Bluefins swim clinic.
