Matt Waters kicked three field goals and a convert in the second half as the Westman Wolverines gave the Greendell Falcons the boot with a 16-7 Manitoba Major Football League win on Saturday in Winnipeg.
Waters’ field goals were from 17, 27 and 26 yards out, while Lynden Middleton scored Westman’s touchdown on a 25-yard reception from Seth Hume, who completed 16 of 27 passes for 125 yards and was also picked off once.
The Wolverines (2-1) scored all their points in the second half after giving up seven in the first quarter to the Falcons (0-3).
James Johnson rushed for 61 yards on 13 carries, while Hume scampered for 20 more. Hume connected with Jared Spearing four times for 47 yards and Jordan Paraschuk on three occasions for 20 yards.
Karson Turpie and Adam McClelland both made six tackles, with Turpie also recording a sack. Grant Maluga had a pair of tackles for losses, while Brendon Brydges picked off a Greendell pass and Dylan Boucher blocked a punt.
The Wolverines return to Brandon to host the Fort Garry Lions (3-0) at Vincent Massey’s field on Saturday at 3 p.m.
