The Westman Wolverines dominated the second half of their Manitoba Major Football League game on Saturday, scoring all their points in the final 30 minutes in their 31-10 victory over the host St. James Rods.
Virden’s Shayne Sebree rumbled for 167 of the Westman’s 326 team rushing yards, including an eight-yard run to paydirt. Quarterback Seth Hume, who’s from Brandon, added 78 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, while Neepawa’s Brad Kyle had seven carries for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Hume finished 3-for-9 passing for 23 yards and two interceptions. He connected with follow Brandonite Kristian Doherty twice for 19 yards.
Matt Waters kicked two converts and added a punt single, while Jared Spearing had a five-yard run for a two-point conversion for the Wolverines (4-2). The Rods (1-5) conceded a safety to round out the scoring.
Once again, Brandon’s T.J. Simpson led the Wolverine defence, which gave up 10 points in the first half but shut the door the rest of the way, with 8 1/2 tackles, a tackle for a loss and a sack. Virden’s Ace Brown made five tackles, while Souris’s Brendynn Tuttosi had 2 1/2.
Westman is off next weekend and closes out the regular season schedule on Oct. 12 with a road game against the Fort Garry Lions (2-3).
