With starting setter Dustin Schneider of Brandon staying back in Canada, the national men’s volleyball team suffered a damaging World League loss to Finland on Friday overseas in Tampere.
Finland (4-5) moved to within two points of second-place Canada (5-4) by sweeping their Group C match 25-18, 25-17, 26-24.
Outside hitter Toon Van Lankvelt, a 28-year-old Rivers native who graduated from Neelin High School, started the third set and finished with one kill for Canada, which takes on Finland again today. The 27-year-old Schneider, a Vincent Massey High School grad, is expected to be back with the Canadian team before the world championship, which begins on Aug. 30 in Poland.
