The Portage Terriers added a lot more Westman flavour to their roster on Thursday.
The Manitoba Junior Hockey League club brought Neepawa’s Nolan Speiss closer to home as the Terriers acquired both the 18-year-old defenceman and 18-year-old forward Jaryd Wiebe from the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s English River Miners for forward Colton Spicer, 18, and future considerations. Both Speiss and Wiebe had one assist in three games with the Miners.
The Terriers also acquired goaltender Mitch Wiebe, a 19-year-old from MacGregor, from the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for futures. Wiebe has a 2-1 record, a 2.92 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in three games this season.
Meanwhile, the Dauphin Kings acquired 19-year-old forward Jason Berube from Saskatchewan’s La Ronge Ice Wolves for 20-year-old forward Dayton Reinboldt. Berube had one goal, one assist and 12 penalty minutes in seven games with La Ronge this season. Reinboldt had three goals and five points in 10 games this season for Dauphin.
