The Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Portage Terriers have picked up Brandon native Taylor Wells from the Dauphin Kings for future considerations.
Wells had five goals and 18 points in 51 games last season for Dauphin, which also sent 20-year-old netminder Matt Larose to the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior A league for future considerations.
Meanwhile, the Virden Oil Capitals have sent the rights to Brendan Persley back to the BCHL’s Vernon Vipers for future considerations. Persley, a 19-year-old forward who was recently released by the WHL’s Tri-City Americans, was acquired from the Vipers in exchange for 19-year-old Brandonite Mitch Van Teeling back on Sept. 3. While Van Teeling headed west, Persley never made the move to Manitoba.
In other news, Parker Thomas of the Selkirk Steelers has been named the MJHL’s player of the month, Thomas Ward-Cardinal of the OCN Blizzard the top defenceman and OCN’s Justin McDonald goalie of the month.
Virden’s Richard Olson and Pilot Mound product Brett Pinkerton of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines were runners-up for top player, while Brandonites Tanner Jago of the Winkler Flyers and Josh Elmes of OCN were runners-up for top defenceman.
