Terriers take down Oil Caps

Elkhorn’s Taylor Sanheim was one of five goal scorers for the Portage Terriers on Sunday night as they beat the visiting Virden Oil Capitals 5-2 to extend their Manitoba Junior Hockey League winning streak to seven games.

In Sunday’s other games, it was: Waywayseecappo Wolverines 4, Winnipeg Blues 1; Selkirk Steelers 3, OCN Blizzard 0; and Swan Valley Stampeders 5, Winkler Flyers 3.

On Saturday, it was: Neepawa Natives 5, Wolverines 3; Steinbach Pistons 5, Oil Capitals 2; Flyers 4, Dauphin Kings 1; Blues 6, Blizzard 1; and Steelers 8, Stampeders 1.

At Portage la Prairie, Jaryd Wiebe added a goal and an assist for the Terriers (34-13-6). Cole Hamblin and Kurt Johnas replied for Virden (29-17-3).

Wolverines 4 Blues 1

At Waywayseecappo, Dylan Gejdos scored twice and set up another marker for the Wolverines (15-33-3), who snapped their three-game losing streak. Scott Rowswell was the only member of the Blues (27-18-6) to beat MacGregor’s Mitch Wiebe, who made 32 saves for the Wolverines.

Steelers 3 Blizzard 0

At Selkirk, Parker Thomas netted a pair of goals, Soren Fredriksen added another and Nathan Park made 19 saves for his fourth shutout of the season for the league-leading Steelers (44-6-3). Killarney’s Brian Archibald stopped 45 shots in net for OCN (17-33-4), who have lost nine straight.

Stampeders 5 Flyers 3

At Winkler, Boissevain’s Jagger Thomas scored a pair of goals for the Stampeders (23-28-2), who got 37 saves from Graham Hunt. Shawn Pachet and Regan Stire both had a goal and an assist for the Flyers (16-32-4).

Natives 5 Wolverines 3

At Wayway, Drake Lindsay and Steven Phillips both netted a pair of markers for the Natives (12-35-5), while Brandonite Tyson Verhelst made 35 saves. Robert Briem scored two goals and set up the other for the Wolverines, who got 28 saves from Brandonite Justin Holder.

Pistons 5 Oil Capitals 2

At Steinbach, Justin Augert had two goals and an assist, while Daniel Taillefer and Denis Bosc both had a goal and two helpers for the Pistons (35-14-2). Johnas and Mack Hardy replied for Virden.

Flyers 4 Kings 1

At Winkler, Tristan Keck scored twice and Boissevain’s Zak Hicks added a goal and two assists for the Flyers. Killarney’s Aubrey Chapman replied for the Sher-Wood Division-leading Kings (32-16-1).

Blues 6 Blizzard 1

At Winnipeg, Liam Bilton and Brett Brooks both had a goal and an assist as the Blues scored six unanswered goals to earn the win. Tyler Grove replied for the Blizzard.

Steelers 8 Stampeders 1

At Selkirk, the Steelers had eight different goal scorers, with Joel Messner, Kolby Woods and Thomas picking up two helpers with their goal. Dylan Hykawy netted the Stampeders’ lone goal.
