Brandon’s Amanda Thornborough has been named to the Canadian women’s rugby team for a three-game New Zealand tour in June.
Thornborough, who has played for Canada’s national 7s team, is trying to make the 15s team for a chance to compete in the Women’s Rugby World Cup this summer in France.
The 23-year-old Vincent Massey graduate, who won two CIS titles with St. Francis Xavier University, helped the Canadians sweep the United States in a pair of exhibition matches in April. She sat out a 51-7 victory before appearing in Canada’s 14-10 win in Langford, B.C.
Canada will open the New Zealand tour against Australia on June 5 before facing New Zealand on June 9 and 13.
