Tough day for Manitoba teams

Both Manitoba teams dropped their two matches in their National Team Challenge Cup volleyball tournaments on Friday to finish third in their groups with 2-2 records.

In Winnipeg, Manitoba’s women’s team, which includes Killarney’s Rylie Dickson and Brandon University Bobcat recruit Nikki Majewski, lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17) to Alberta 2 and was swept 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-18) by Ontario 1 yesterday.

Manitoba will face Alberta 1 in a quarter-final today.

In Gatineau, Que., Brandon Bobcats recruit Bruce Akubukaka and Manitoba will meet Bobcat middle Ty Moorman and B.C. in the quarter-finals after Manitoba lost to Alberta 1 as well as Ontario 2. B.C. finished second in its pool with a 3-1 record after beating Quebec 2 and falling to Ontario 1.
