Sam Tuivai has been rewarded for his fantastic season.
The 24-year-old left side for the Brandon University Bobcats men’s volleyball team was named to the Canada West first all-star team on Friday.
Tuivai led the conference with 4.35 kills and 4.89 points per set, although he finished second in the conference in total kills and points.
Tuivai also finished the year with 21 aces, 44 blocks and averaged 1.71 digs per set.
The Bobcats finished the season with a 13-9 record, good enough for sixth place in Canada West and ranked eighth in the nation. They defeated Saskatchewan in the first round of the playoffs and beat No.1-ranked Alberta last night to clinch a berth in nationals.
Alberta’s Mitch Irvine was named the conference’s MVP, while Manitoba’s Kenny Rooney was named rookie of the year. Saskatchewan’s Brian Gavlas took home coach of the year honours.
