Bobbi Uhl got off to a solid start to her competitive golf season on the weekend.
Despite being the youngest player in the girls’ field at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s season opener/Team Canada qualifier in Winkler on Saturday and Sunday, the 14-year-old from Erickson finished fourth.
Uhl shot an 84 on Saturday and followed it up with a 79 on Sunday for a total of 163, putting her four strokes back of third place and nine behind Winnipeg’s Veronica Vetesnik, a 17-year-old who won the division.
Meanwhile, in the junior boys’ event, Brandonite Austin Dobrescu shot a 76 on Saturday and an 83 on Sunday to place eighth at 159. Colton Willms, who’s also from Brandon, finished 12th with a two-round total of 163, while Carberry’s Joel Baron was 19th at 182.
Virden’s Will Draper placed 13th in the bantam boys event after shooting a combined 181 in his rounds.
The Maple Leaf Tour remains in Manitoba next weekend with the Shilo Country Club putting on the worlds qualifiers, which runs on Saturday and Sunday.
