Toon Van Lankvelt of Rivers helped Canada’s national men’s volleyball team avenge an earlier World League loss to Finland on Saturday.
One day after being swept in three straight sets by the host Finns, the Canadians returned the favour with a 3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-17) victory in Tampere, strengthening their hold on second place in Pool C.
Van Lankvelt, an outside hitter, started and shared the team lead with 11 kills. He also had a block and a service ace for Canada, which improved to 6-4 while Finland fell to 4-6.
Playing without starting centre Dustin Schneider of Brandon, who skipped the overseas trip, the Canadians will visit former Brandon University Bobcats star Paul Sanderson and the Australian Volleyroos (3-7) on Friday and Saturday in Sydney in their final matches of the intercontinental round.
