Brandonite Mitch Van Teeling of the Dauphin Kings is the runner-up to Liam Bilton of the Winnipeg Blues, who has earned the nod as the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s player of the week.
Bilton, a 19-year-old forward from Winnipeg, fired three goals and finished with five points in two games last week for the Blues, who finished off the defending champion Steinbach Pistons and took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven league final with a 6-1 victory over the Dauphin Kings in Winnipeg on Sunday night.
Bilton leads the MJHL in playoff scoring with seven goals and 15 points in 13 games. Van Teeling, a 20-year-old forward, has one goal and seven points in nine post-season games.
The Kings, who had their eight-game playoff winning streak snapped by the Blues on Sunday, will host Game 2 of the championship series tonight at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place at 7:30.
