Vikes land in finals

Both of the Vincent Massey Vikings varsity teams are off to the Brandon High School Basketball League finals.

Johnson Duku posted a game-high 22 points for the Vikings on Thursday as they defeated the visiting Crocus Plainsmen 65-29 in the boys’ semifinal. Seth Friesen added 11 points for Massey, while Mike Olive had 15 for Crocus.

Meanwhile, the Massey girls got 10 points from Shelby Nohr and nine apiece from Brittany Boschman and Tara VanCauwenberghe as they edged the visiting Plainsmen 46-41 in their semifinal. Desirae Peiffer had eight points for Crocus.

The opening games of the best-of-three finals will be held at Neelin on Tuesday. The girls’ game starts at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:45 p.m.

In a freshman girls’ game on Thursday, Hailey Curtis had 12 points for the Vikings as they beat the Plainsmen 50-16. Erynn Buhr replied with four points for Crocus.
