The Vincent Massey Vikings came to life in the second half of their Winnipeg High School Football League John Potter (AAA) Division game on Thursday in Winnipeg, but they just ran out of time.
The Vikings spotted the River East Kodiaks a 21-0 lead at the half and tried valiantly to come back but fell 26-22.
Matt Bryant rushed for 216 yards on 18 carries, including a 67-yard run to paydirt, and Tyler Rowan added 32 yards on the ground for Massey. Jace Mills caught a pair of passes from Thomas Moroz for 44 yards. Moroz connected with Darian Inman for an 18-yard strike.
Steven Gresl followed up his defensive player of the week effort with seven tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as well as a safety against the Kodiaks (2-2). Eugene Lwanga added four tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery for Massey (0-4), while Jackson Johnson made five tackles.
