Joel Rocan had 23 kills to lead the Vincent Massey Vikings to their second straight Brandon High School Volleyball League varsity boys’ championship title on Wednesday night.

Daven Pascal and Jared Friesen, who are the other two returning starters from last year’s squad, both added 12 kills in Massey’s 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18) win over the host Neelin Spartans in the third match of the best-of-three city final. Massey head coach Kurt Hunter said everything was just working well for the Vikings on Wednesday.

"All kind of facets of the game were quite tactful on our side," said Hunter, whose squad now advances to AAAA provincial regionals in Winnipeg on Nov. 16. "We tried to serve them tough to places we thought we could set up our blocks well and set up triple blocks and from there our defence was able to dig it."

Mason Hodgson had 11 kills while Brandon Lalonde added nine kills for Neelin, which will face the Sanford Sabres in a AAA inter-zone match in Portage la Prairie on Monday.
