Vikings defeat Tigets, Clippers

The Vincent Massey Vikings swept their Prairie West High School Baseball League double-header on Sunday at Andrews Field.

Clark Whelpton held the Neepawa Tigers to one run and five hits in four innings of relief work to pick up the win in Massey’s 10-6 victory to open the day. He also had a triple and drove in two runs, while Bradley Schoonbaert went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Massey closed out its day with a 9-1 win over the Dauphin Clippers. Mitch Lyall threw a no-hitter through five innings and struck out nine batters to pick up the win. Lyall also came around to score three times. Miguel Letain took the loss for Dauphin after giving up five runs in three innings.

In Sunday’s other games:

Deloraine 13 Crocus 7

At Brandon Field, Neil Mills had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Colts, while Mitch Dillabough picked up the win on the mound. Jayden Sisson gave up nine runs in four innings to take the loss for the Plainsmen.

Crocus 12 Reston 10

At Brandon Field, Sisson hit a pair of doubles and drove in three runs for the Plainsmen, while Kyle Johnston held the Tigers to two runs on three hits in three innings while striking out four. Adam Forsyth took the loss for Reston, which got a pair of hits from Elijah Bainbridge.

Hamiota 9 Deloraine 4

At Hamiota, Brody Smith had three hits and was the winning pitcher for the Huskies after going three innings and allowing four hits while striking out three. Andrew Vercaigne took the loss for the Colts despite striking out 10 in five innings.

Boissevain 2 Dauphin 1

At Boissevain, Aaron Pugh held the Clippers to one run and four hits in five innings while striking out seven to pick up the win on the mound for the Broncos. Lee Kindret was 3-for-3 for Dauphin, while Letain scored the team’s lone run.

Neepawa 3 Boissevain 2

At Boissevain, Garett Rempel allowed one hit and struck out four in his three innings of work to earn the win for the Tigers. He also singled and scored a run. Jay Pringle took the loss for the Broncos. He surrendered three runs on two hits while striking out five in three innings.

Major Pratt 13 Killarney 2

At Russell, Wyatt Kieper went 4-for-4 and drove in five runs, while Grant Naherniak picked up three RBIs for the host Trojans. Landon Cochrane gave up two runs and struck out nine to earn the win for Major Pratt, while Lane Ganski took the loss after giving up one run in two innings. Morgan Magwood went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Raiders.

Major Pratt 5 Birtle 5

At Russell, Rob Wishart went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for the Trojans. Daniel Fouillard had two RBIs for the Falcons. Reece Ciprick held the Falcons hitless in his three innings on the mound for the Trojans and struck out four. Keenan Lewis threw for five innings for Birtle and gave up three hits while striking out seven.
