Brandon’s Vincent Massey Vikings finished fourth in the boys’ competition at the provincial high school golf championships Friday in Portage la Prairie.
Zach Whitecloud, Kolby Day, Austin Dobrescu and Carson Ransom all shot between 81 and 87 for a team score of 245, leaving the Vikings 13 strokes behind the champion Warren Wildcats, but only three shots out of second place. The best three scores from each team were counted.
Russell’s Major Pratt Trojans tied for ninth at 264, with Dauphin 10th at 266, Carberry 12th at 276, Killarney 13th at 280 and Glenboro 15th at 300.
Steven Young, who has won the last three Tamarack junior boy’s titles, shot even-par 70 to lead the individual competition, helping Sanford tie for second with Selkirk. Danny Peaslee of Souris played as an individual and tied Day for the best score by a Westman golfer at 81.
The Birtle Falcons team of Mariah Graham, Cassidy Lyttle, Tashel Scantlebury and Victoria Simard were fourth in the girls’ event with a total of 378, a whopping 94 strokes behind the champion St. Mary’s Flames. Lyttle led Birtle with a 116.
