The Vincent Massey Vikings varsity boys’ basketball team is on a roll.

The Vikings went undefeated in their Triple Crown Zone Challenge round-robin tournament that wrapped up on Saturday at the Massey and Neelin gymnasiums. That followed up the Vikings’ win over the Crocus Plainsmen in the Brandon high school league semifinal last week, and has the squad feeling good going into Tuesday’s opening game of the best-of-three league final versus the Neelin Spartans.

"It’s good," Vikes head coach Brett Nohr said. "We shot real well, we defended real well and everybody got to play a lot. It was a successful weekend that way."

Massey, which went 3-0 in the tournament, was led by different players in its two games on Saturday. Andrew Nelson’s 21 points paced the team in its 82-47 win over Moosomin’s McNaughton Marquis (1-2), who got 12 points from Frank Henadey. Cassidy Obijiaku followed that up with a 15-point performance in the Vikings’ 80-45 win over the Steinbach Christian Flames (1-2). Christian Fry led the Flames with 13 points.

Massey played in back-to-back games, which had Nohr happy to see all of his players perform well.

"We didn’t have anyone sitting on the bench waiting to get in," he said. "Everyone came in and produced. We had people playing different positions and it was a good weekend for us."
