The Vincent Massey Vikings’ run in the Winnipeg High School Football League playoffs is over.
The Vikings lost 37-7 to the undefeated Grant Park Pirates in a Kas Vidruk (AA) Division semifinal game at the East Side Eagles field in Winnipeg on Thursday night.
“I’m so proud of the effort we put forth,” said Vikings head coach Mike Steeves, whose team went 5-2-1 during the regular season and beat the Kildonan East Reivers in a quarter-final last week. “I couldn’t be happier with our performance and such a great season we had.”
Massey’s Evan Didychuk was 7-for-17 passing for 118 yards and a 70-yard touchdown to Cassidy Obijiaku, who finished with three catches for 75 yards.
Obijiaku’s first-half major cut the Pirates’ lead to 10-7, but Grant Park pulled away after star running back Michael Ritchott returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown.
James Johnson ran 13 times for 74 yards to lead the Vikings.
Ty Kuz led the Vikings defence with 14 tackles and a forced fumble. Jesse Smith added 10 tackles and a sack, while Nathan Unger had six tackles and a sack for Vincent Massey.
