The Vincent Massey Vikings lost all hope of finishing in first place in the Winnipeg High School Football League’s Kas Vidruk Division on Friday.
Massey (4-2) struggled to move the ball on offence and fell 14-0 to the host West Kildonan Wolverines (2-4).
“Their first drive took about eight minutes and put us in a bind, and on offence we struggled,” Massey head coach Mike Steeves said.
“With that much time off the clock we couldn’t get into a rhythm and the guys started to panic a bit. Their defence played strong and we couldn’t figure them out.”
James Johnston had 14 carries for 61 yards for the Vikings, while Michael Bright picked up 40 yards on his two rushes.
Rory Ponto led the Massey defence with nine tackles and Nathan Unger had eight. Jesse Smith recorded five tackles, three sacks, one interception and forced a fumble.
Massey is now in a tie for third place with the River East Kodiaks. The Vikings finish their regular season on Thursday when they visit the Kildonan East Reivers (3-3).
