Virden Hockey Ventures Inc. announced the inaugural board of directors for the community’s new Junior A hockey team that will play its first season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in the fall.
Bob Berry is the board’s governor with Dale Lewis serving as president. Brock Andrew was named the vice-president, Jacy Whyte is the second vice-president, Kent Reid the treasurer and Chad Scharff is the secretary. Craig Davidson, Perry Rasmuson, Daren Bryant and Doug Heritage will serve as directors.
The Virden group purchased the Winnipeg Saints after the 2011-12 MJHL season ended and moved the franchise to the Westman community. The yet-to-named team hired former Southwest Cougars Midget AAA coach Troy Leslie as its head coach and general manager on April 26.
