Brandon’s Tammy McKay and Killarney’s Dean Kachur left the Coaching Manitoba Impact Awards breakfast in Winnipeg on Sunday empty-handed.
McKay, one of Skate Brandon’s coaches, was up for the Dr. Jack Hunt Memorial Award for developmental athletics, but saw the award go to Swan River’s Jerry Mosiondz.
Kachur, meanwhile, was nominated for the Peter Dick Award for school system athletes, but Winnipeg’s Brian Plett took home the honour.
While they didn’t win awards, a handful of Westmanites were recognized for their service in coaching.
Brandon’s Barb Coulter and Carey Lasuik as well as Dauphin’s Ted Rea were recognized for being coaches for more than 25 years, while Lorie Henderson of the Brandon Eagles Gymnastics Club was recognized as an international coach.
