Westman duo honoured

A pair of Westman female hockey players have been named to their NCAA conferences’ all-rookie teams.

Cassidy Carels of Bruxelles was named to the Hockey East squad after the 5-foot-5 forward scored 14 goals and had seven assists in 35 games with the Providence College Friars. She led the team in goals and her 21 points put her third on the squad. She was seventh in the conference for points by a rookie and 17th in the NCAA for rookie scoring.

Providence went 6-15-0 in conference play before falling to Boston University in the Hockey East quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Glenboro’s Brittni Mowat was named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s rookie team. The 5-foot-7 goalie broke many Bemidji State records for a rookie this season, including wins (10), games (33), minutes (1,888:34), goals-against average (2.45) and save percentage (.918).

The Beavers went 8-17-3 in conference play and were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by North Dakota.
