A trio of Westman hockey players are preparing to take on the United States this week after successful tryouts with Canadian national teams.
Forward Ashleigh Brykaliuk of Brandon and Neepawa defenceman Halli Krzyzaniak will both play with the national development team, while Hartney blue-liner Melissa Hunt will suit up for the Canadian under-18 squad.
The development and U-18 teams will play back-to-back against the Americans on Thursday, Friday and Sunday in Calgary.
Krzyzaniak and the Blue squad wrapped up the selection camp with their first scrimmage victory, 2-1 over Yellow on Saturday in Calgary. Brykaliuk played for Yellow, which won the first two games of the camp.
At the U-18 selection camp, Sheridan Oswald of MacGregor helped the White team earn its first victory, 2-1 in a shootout over Red. Oswald was stopped in the shootout.
Brandon’s Kristen Campbell played the first half of the game in net for Red, stopping 10 of the 11 shots she faced. Hunt also played for Red.
