Westman teams on collision course

Either the Neepawa Tigers or Deloraine/Hartney Colts will play for a provincial AA high school hockey championship in Carman on Saturday.

The Westman squads will play each other in today’s semifinal after Neepawa topped its group with a 2-0 record. The Colts finished in a three-way tie in their pool with a 1-1 record, but placed second based on goal differential. The Carman Cougars and Notre Dame/Somerset/Westmount Mustangs will meet in the other semifinal.

In Thursday’s games, it was:

NDSW 4 Boissevain 0

Mark Tripp made 18 saves for the Broncos. Joey Delaquis scored twice for the Mustangs.

Del./Hart. 4 Carman 3

Riley Bodin scored the game-winning goal with six seconds left in regulation time for the Colts, who got one goal and one assist from Nial Mills and Jared Maxwell.

Neepawa 7 Boissevain 3

Garett Rempel scored five goals and set up another to lead the Tigers. Kyle McDonald added five assists, while Jesse Adams had four. Carter Cowlthorp replied with two goals and one assist for the Broncos, while Skylar Canada had one goal and two helpers.

Major Pratt 6 Del./Hart. 5

The Trojans scored four times in a 4:12 span in the third period to overcome a three-goal deficit. Landyn Cochrane netted the game-winner and Bret Nahirniak added two goals. Derek and Lucas Hainsworth each had a goal and an assist for the Colts.

Neepawa 6 NDSW 1

McDonald and Wyatt Salmon paced the Tigers with one goal and one assist each. Grant Graham made 17 saves for Neepawa.

Carman 5 Major Pratt 3

Nahirniak’s two goals weren’t enough to lift the Trojans over Carman and into the playoffs. Colby Hennan had a natural hat trick for the Cougars.
