Five Westman teams are still alive heading into the final day of the provincial high school curling championships in Rivers and Minnedosa.
On the girls side, the Virden Golden Bears, skipped by Samantha Rimke, and Dori Vince’s Carberry Cougars squad both reached the A-event semifinals, before dropping to the B-event. Virden lost 8-5 to the A-event champion Warren Wildcats Friday while Carberry fell 9-6 to the Morden Thunder.
Virden will face Dauphin’s Hanne Jensen in a B-event quarter-finals today, while Carberry plays Jeanne Sauve.
Vincent Massey’s Kaitlyn Payette was eliminated on Friday, going 1-2 at the event.
In the boys’ side of the draw, Virden’s Jake Kitto advanced to the B-event quarter-finals with a 5-2 win over Jeanne Sauve last night. Taylor Schettler’s William Morton Warriors from Somerset also reached the quarter-finals by beating Rivers’ Cory Gill 7-5 on Friday. William Morton will play Margaret Barbour today, while Virden will play Springfield.
Meanwhile, Massey’s Cameron Beaupre went 0-2 and was eliminated on Friday.
