Three young women from Westman will don Hockey Canada jerseys this week to face their top rivals from the United States.
The Canadian women’s development team — coached by Brandonite Dwayne Gylywoychuk — will battle the U.S. under-22 team in a three-game exhibition series, with games scheduled for tonight, Friday afternoon and Sunday morning in Calgary.
The Canadian team features 19-year-old centre Ashleigh Brykaliuk of Brandon and 19-year-old defenceman Halli Krzyzaniak of Neepawa, both two-time world champions with Canada’s under-18 team. On Wednesday, Gylywoychuk named Krzyzaniak an alternate captain for his squad.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old defenceman Melissa Hunt of Hartney will suit up for the Canadian under-18 women’s team in their three-game exhibition series versus the Americans.
Those games will also be played in Calgary this afternoon, Friday night and Sunday afternoon.
Former national team member Delaney Collins of Pilot Mound is serving as an assistant coach with the under-18 squad.
