A pair of Brandon Wheat Kings are already on NHL Central Scouting’s radar for the 2015 draft.
Brandon blue-liner Ryan Pilon and left-winger Jesse Gabrielle are among the 19 Western Hockey League players to make Central Scouting’s Futures North American list of top prospects for next year’s NHL draft.
The 6-foot-2, 212-pound Pilon, who turns 18 on Oct. 10, fired seven goals and notched 36 points in 66 games last season. Meanwhile, the 5-foot-11, 201-pound Gabrielle, who turned 17 last month, scored 12 goals and notched 26 points and 68 penalty minutes in 49 games in his rookie season in 2013-14.
Also on the Futures List is the Wheat Kings’s latest import prospect, Russian defenceman Ivan Provorov, who spent last season in the United States Hockey League.
The Wheat Kings selected the 17-year-old Provorov 30th overall in last week’s CHL Import Draft, after the 6-foot-0, 193-pound native of Yaroslavl scored six goals and notched 19 points in 56 USHL games with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
He joins Czech overage forward Richard Nejezchleb — who may play pro — and 19-year-old Latvian winger Rihards Bukarts as imports on the club’s protected list, with only two allowed on the final roster.
