The Brandon Wheat Kings finished in second place in their pool at the Tournament of Champions’ Bantam AA competition in Brandon on Thursday.
Eric Hildebrand and Jaxon Heeney each had one goal and one assist to pace the Wheaties to a 5-2 win over the Virden Oil Kings in their tournament opener. Carson Boyechko, Nolan Twerdoclib and Graham Wright also scored for Brandon.
Travis Kasto and Shane Keown replied for the Oil Kings.
Brandon dropped its late game 2-1 to the Saskatoon Stallions and will play in a quarter-final this morning. Goal-scorers were not available from the source.
Virden finished 0-2 in the group after dropping an 11-0 decision to the Stallions in the afternoon. Jordan Unger led Saskatoon with four goals and two assists. Saskatoon advances to the semifinals. Virden will play in a quarter-final.
Meanwhile, the Foxwarren Falcons finished on top of
Pool A with a 2-0 record. Keenan Lewis scored two goals and set up two others, while Joben Smith also scored twice as Foxwarren beat the Winnipeg East Railcats 6-4 in the afternoon. Noah Lemoine netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in the Falcons’ 4-3 tournament-opening win over the Central Plains Capitals.
Foxwarren advances to today’s semifinals.

AAA BANTAM FEMALE HOCKEY SHOWCASE
Kenzie Robinson and Emma Coulter each had a goal and two assists to lift the Yellowhead Chiefs to a 3-0 win over the Westman South Wildcats in the opening game of the event at the Optimist Arena on Thursday. Jaedon Cooke scored the other Yellowhead goal.
The event continues today, while the AAA Bantam Male Hockey Showcase will begin today at the Sportsplex and Keystone Centre rinks.
