Wheat Kings on the radar

The Brandon Wheat Kings’ fast start to the Western Hockey League season has not gone unnoticed.

The Wheat Kings, with a 4-1-0-0 first-place record, have earned honourable mention in the latest Canadian Hockey League rankings.

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Quebec Remparts (5-0-0-0) have retained their No.1 ranking, while the defending WHL champion Edmonton Oil Kings (3-1-0-0) hold steady at No.2.

Three other WHL teams made the top 10. The Kamloops Blazers (3-0-0-1), jumped from eighth to sixth, switching spots with the Portland Winterhawks (3-2-0-0), who visit the Wheat Kings on Friday night.

The Calgary Hitmen (3-0-1-0) are ranked 10th for the second straight week.

SKILLS ON DISPLAY: The Wheat Kings are reviving their in-team showdown this season with the Scotiabank Skills Day, set for Sunday, Nov. 4 at Westman Place.

Members of the Wheat Kings will compete in categories such as hardest shot, breakaway, relay and accuracy shooting at the event, which begins at 2 p.m. Tickets will cost $2 each, with proceeds going to Hockey Brandon.
