The Brandon Wheat Kings got back on the winning track with a 5-1 Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League victory over the NorMan Northstars on Sunday afternoon at the Sportsplex.
Brandon Switzer had one goal and one assist for the West Division leading Wheat Kings (16-3-2), with Tyler Coulter and Tanner Kaspick picking up a pair of helpers. Coltyn Bates, Duncan Campbell, Josh Kobelka and Jordan Kaspick also scored for Brandon. Tanner Hepp replied for NorMan (7-14-1).
Also on Sunday, it was Eastman Selects 4, Yellowhead Chiefs 3 and Winnipeg Thrashers 3, Southwest Cougars 0.
On Saturday, it was: Chiefs 7, Northstars 2; and Cougars 6, Selects 5 in overtime. Meanwhile, the Wheat Kings’ road game against the Winnipeg Wild on Saturday was postponed due to icy highways.
Selects 4 Chiefs 3
At Shoal Lake, the Chiefs (14-5-2) were shut out in the third period as they fell to the Selects (4-14-1). Bradley Bowles, Ashton Anderson and Josh Martin all scored for the home side. Riley Welsh netted two goals, including the game-winner, for Eastman.
Thrashers 3 Cougars 0
At Deloraine, Alex Keena and Braden Purtill both had one goal and one assist for the league-leading Thrashers (18-3-0). Tyson Verhelst made 25 saves for Southwest (9-12-2).
Chiefs 7 Northstars 2
At Shoal Lake, twins Bradley and Shawn Bowles had two goals and an assist each for the Chiefs. Anderson had a goal and two assists, while Brock Paddock and Tyler Dereniwski scored the other Yellowhead goals. Steven Goran and Brendan Barron replied for the Northstars.
Cougars 6 Selects 5 (OT)
At Deloraine, Cameron Whyte scored two goals, including the overtime winner, and had three assists for the Cougars. Jordan McCausland scored three goals and added a helper, Tanner Lewis had a goal and an assist, while Zak Hicks dished out three assists for Southwest. Dane Mistelbacher scored twice for the Selects.
