Kristen Campbell was perfect in January.
The Westman Wildcats standout did not allow a single goal in Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League action last month, while posting five shutouts in six victories — earning one victory in a relief appearance — to earn the nod as the goaltender of the month.
The Grade 10 student from Brandon finished the regular season with a 15-5 record and led the league with a brilliant 0.62 goals-against average and .974 save percentage to help the Wildcats finish second with a 22-5-1 record. Campbell’s performance in her first year of midget has already caught the eye of NCAA scouts.
"She’s been getting lots of letters from universities down south for sure," Wildcats head coach Kary Kirkup said. "She’s a great kid, a great student … and she has a real passion for the game."
It’s the second straight goaltender award for Campbell, who will lead the Wildcats into their home tournament this weekend before the playoffs begin the following week.
